Celebrating New Year's Eve in Tuscany

Are you planning how to spend New Year's Eve or the first day 2023 in Tuscany? Then you won't be short of options of where to go to celebrate the ringing in of the new year.

If you are based in the city center of Florence you should check out our article dedicated to activities in the city squares (concerts and entertainment for all ages).  

For those of you who are basing yourselves in the Tuscan countryside, and are local for celebrations just a little closer to home, here are just a few of the highlights around Tuscany

Siena | PIAZZA DEL CAMPO

A grand show in Piazza del Campo with many events spread across the historical center for the last day of the year in Siena. In Piazza del Campo, the program includes a selection of music by local Djs startingat 7.30pm and continuing on until 3am.

In Piazza del Mercato, you can dance in "We Love Swing" with live music, DJ sets and entertainment.

Music and rhythms for all tastes in the squares in the historic center. Many choices, including food stands and background music starting at noon and continuing on until dawn on the first day of the new year with a concluding concert within Palazzo Pubblico at dawn.

The shows and the festive atmosphere will start at 7.30 pm. In piazza Indipendenza you will find the warm notes tropical infusion by the C.A.F.E. Collettivo Afrotropicale di Fusione Etnica with live music of latin Cumbia and Samba, in Piazza Tolomei you will find Italian Soul music by the historical band “The Bluebeters”; in Piazza San Giovanni, the Electro Gospel choir with 18 singers creating a special and emotional atmosphere with their performance.

Siena and the New Years

Pisa | CITY CENTER

Pisa says hello to the new year with a bang! In Piazza dei Cavalieri, the stage turns on at 22.30 with their New Year's Eve concert offering a grand variety of musical styles for all tastes until 2am.

After the toast and the spectacular fireworks from the Ponte di Mezzo and along the river, music will continue in the piazza.

On Sunday January 1st, the program includes a New Yer's Concert at the Teatro Verdi at 6pm.

Arezzo | PIAZZA GRANDE

Starting at 9pm, head to piazza Sant’Agostino for the DJ set by Arezzo che Spacca to be followed by The New Tones, rockabilly band from Rome. The InformaGiovani will host entertainment for childrens managed by Progetto 5 while Enzo Scartoni and his music show will accompany all up until midnight, for the toast and panettone offered by the shops in the piazza (they also offer their bathrooms for public use).

From midnight until 2am, Saturnino Celani will keep everyone dancing with his djset.

PRATO | PIAZZA SAN FRANCESCO

Prato also proposes to start the new year dancing, with live music in the main squares and streets. Starting at 10.30pm in piazza San Francesco you will find i Legno, a Tuscan duo with over 40 million streams, then the collective BNKR44 to end with the "after live" with Ghera DJ set. Along the streets you will find funky style with a street band while local clubs will offer many more dj-set and music to end the year.

LUCCA | PIAZZA SANTA MARIA

In Lucca, the last day of the year is celebrated with a musical journey that takes you from Gloria Gaynor to the Gipsy Kings, from Modugno to Battisti. These are some of the songs presented by Luisa Corna, the famous singer and TV host that will be at the center of the 2023 New Year's program in piazza Santa Maria. The evening, from 10pm to 3am, will be conducted by Emanuela Gennai, opening with a DJ set by Federico Avanzati, followed by Luisa Corna's show and ending with a DJ set by the Mashville band and Veronica Niccolai.

Pistoia | PIAZZA DEL DUOMO

Lots of events and music in the streets and squares are planned, but the main event is a live music concert in Piazza del Duomo starting at 10pm, followed with a toast to the new year and a DJ set.

FLORENCE | HISTORICAL CENTER

A program with concerts, circus acts and other entertainment for teh family: this year, there are 4 piazzas in the historical center hosting musical events. Piazza Signoria will offer acrobatic shows, light plays and projections on Palazzo Vecchio and music from 9pm to 1am, while piazza Santissima Annunziata will host the Gospel concert from 8.10pm to after midnight.

This year, Piazza San Lorenzo will host the classical music concert with  the Orchestra Toscana Classica in collaboration wi thte Orchestra Filarmonica of Kharkiv, from 10.15pm to 1am.

The streets of the Oltrarno will be filled with music as three Tuscan marching bands make their "march" along the streets of the area, starting at 9.30pm and stopping in piazza del Carmine around midnight to toast the arrival of the new year.
